At Southern Cross Primary School we integrate our humanities curriculum (History, Geography & Civics and Citizenship) using a Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach.
This approach allows students to self-direct their learning and learn valuable problem solving skills in the process.
The PBL approach encourages students to take ownership of a provided problem and find their own solution. The program follows six steps…
Define- The teacher defines the problem and sets the task- the students will be given a scenario of the problem.
Discover- The students have a chance to explore their dream and research any facts/ information they need to know.
Dream- Students visualise/draw what they would like to achieve and how it will look.
Design- This is the creating phase.
Deliver- The Students present to the class their final pieces.
Debrief- The students will be assessed against a rubric developed with the students in the define phase.
