Teaching art at Southern Cross has always been where students can explore their understanding of how art is created and use their knowledge to create their own. In 2019 one of the areas we have covered with grade five and six students is discovering abstract and contemporary artists and then using knowledge gained to create our own art pieces that expressed their understanding of these art forms. Grade three and four have looked at how cartoon characters are created and what role they play in our reading. Then they used their imagination to create their own character. In the junior years we have concentrated on how we add colour and interest to our art work by using different media and materials. Children’s completed work are displayed around the school for our whole school community to enjoy.
